January:

Angela is continuing to monitor the birds in the garden each month. However in January during the RSPB National Garden Survey, she was away and the job was done by Philip,. Harry and Don with assistance from Judith

February

March

The three swift boxes arrived and were put up. THey are made of plastic - a light version of box as they need to be put up onto the insulation material that surrounds the church hall.

A third feature has been added to the Eco Garden - A water feature.

April

An Earth Day service was held on 26 April. The visiting speaker was Rose Gosling, an Eco Church Assessor, and Methodist Local Preacher from Summerbridge.

Sally Waterson gave a demonstartion of some of the Eco Explorer Activities: "Show and Tell" bringing a large wasps'nest, and a ver very large rook's next. Sadly no childrenwere able to come.

Eco Explorers which have been runnning indoors since late February started meeting outdoors on 28 Feb - with a visit to the River Ribble next to Settle United Football Pitch.

Steve the Caretaker has done much work in the Eco Garden. A Bird Bath has been put in the soil garden beside the road. It looks good.

May

Wed 6 May: Coffee Morning and Open Garden Day(10-3.30) at the church Eco-Garden. This was organised by Angela and Jill but with all the other members of the Eco Group helping and also three more members of the church who worked hard in the kitchen all day.

Steve O'Brian and Ann Martin had put in a lot of extra work getting the garden ready. Ellie Parker came up from the YWT/Wild Ingleborough and had a stall. Sara a volunteer for the YWT came from Kettlewell and took photos ready to write about it for the YWT. It was sunny for intervals when the majority of the people came in the morning and sheltered in the garden, making it warm enough to sit out. Only about 10 people came after 2pm. I noticed the new Fig tree in a pot in the gravel area next to the green house, next to the south facing church wall.

The apple tree in the front garden is bearing flowers.

Philip produced a sheet with a list of things to look out for in the garden - i.e. things we have done.

Judith had worked hard making posters and facebooking them. THe most useful outcome of this was that one person from the garden club in Settle saw the poster and refacebooked it to the Gardening Club. We had severl more visitors from the gardening club as a result.

Ascension Day walk, ride, picnic and service: Thur 14 May: Ascension Day. A walk via the Cat steps from Stainforth and a ride via Globe Flower Wood have been planned both ending up at a high point with a view near Lower Winskill Farm. Judith A and Tim Broughton went up on Tuesday 5th to meet Tom Lord and see seeral of the places.

The Eco-group have been asked by ACE Settle to co-host-along with toher organisations a showing of the film "The People's Emergency Briefing" to be held at the church on Thursday 17th September.
