Walk at Ribblehead Quarry. Meet at Entrance at 10.30am SD 763 790 (9.45am train from Settle). Optional Lunch afterwards at Ribblehead Station Hotel. We shall look for colourful waxcap fungi in the grassland. John Osborne of English Nature will show us how this recently closed quarry is now being managed by English Nature for wildlife. (There will be a "Tree Planting" day later - see Sat 3 Nov)

Crayfish Meet at Malham Tarn Field Centre. Paul Bradley who has been carrying out research on Crayfish in our area, including Upper Ribblesdale and Malham Tarn over the past two summers will tell us about his work. Native Crayfish are suffering from Crayfish Plague and becoming rare in our rivers. Bring Outdoor clothes and binoclulars, as we may go for a walk afterwards. Environmental Issues in Bangladesh. How will global warming and sea level rise affect Bangladesh? Not the way you might think. Pat Saunders (of Post-Horn Books, Giggleswick) has been researching environmental problems in Bangladesh with colleagues at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) in London. She will lead an evening on this topic at Linton Court Gallery, Settle Pat Saunders is also a member of the Bangladesh Environment Network, whose members are mainly expatriate Bangladeshis, whom, she says, "see air and water pollution and decaying rivers as the most pressing environmental issues. The contrast between their agenda and that of most western environmentalists is quite striking" All welcome.

Yorkshire Dales National Park Guided Walks and guided walks of other organisations.
Guided Walks in the the Yorkshire Dales, on various natural history topics. Run by the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Events for Summer 2001 (well this link should work shortly.. it may still lead you to 2000''s walks) Although aimed primarily for tourists, These are very good value for money for locals too.. and we don't have to travel far to get to the walks.
Natural History and other courses at Malham Tarn Field Centre.(e.g Grasses, algae, mosses, moths, and many others). Malham is 7 miles from Settle. It is usually possible to attend these courses as a day student. Highly Recommended as a holiday. See Also Courses at Kindrogan Field Centre in Scotland
Plantlife
It is expected that there will be thistle bashing events and a guided wildflower walk at Plantlife's Reserve at Winskill Stones, Langcliffe in summer 2002.
